Inspector Marian Tutilescu, the head of Bucharest police, on Thursday said that former militia colonels Tudor Stanica and Mihail Creanga, who were put on a nation-wide search after they were sentenced to 22 years in prison over the murder of anticommunist dissident Gheorghe Ursu, are hiding together somewhere in the country. The police inspector said that the names of Stanica and Creanga are not registered in the files of the border police that they left the country. "I've found out from their families that they left together but we don't know their whereabouts exactly. Due to the importance of the case, we're doing our best to catch them", said Tutilescu. According to the inspector, the two disappeared from their homes before the warrants for their arrest could be enforced. They police holds the information that they both hide in the same place waiting for the decision about the promotion of an appeal to seek the annulment of the court ruling in their case. A reader informed "Evenimentul zilei" reporter, an information later confirmed by the police, that Tudor Stanica might be hiding in his mountain villa somewhere near Zarnesti town, where it is very difficult to get on a forest road in summer.
