The
“Black spot”: The Bucharest Court of Appeals’ Prosecutor’s Office
A
communiqué of the Bucharest Court of Appeals’ Prosecutor’s Office
tries to justify its decision to appeal the sentencing of two militiamen
convicted of murdering anticommunist dissident Gheorghe Ursu. In
their version, they pretend the court did not follow all the procedures.
We would have expected the Prosecutor’s Office to appeal for demanding
a heavier prison term, at least out of respect for the family of the one
killed in the communist jail. But the bosses of the Prosecutor’s
Office intervened to the convict’s defense, against the very meaning of
the prosecutor’s duty, which is to fight for proving the defendants’ guilt.
But after all that’s been happening in the world of Prosecutor’s Offices
since at their helm is Tanase Joita, no one is really surprised by the
gesture of the Bucharest Court of Appeals’ Prosecutor’s Office.
