Former
Securitate and Militia officers prosecuted for murder
Former
officers of Securitate (secret police) and Militia were prosecuted for
the murder of engineer Gheorghe Ursu on Wednesday. So far, only Marian
Clita has been prosecuted and convicted for the murder of Gheorghe Ursu
on November 17, 1985. The indictment report filed by the Military Prosecutor's
Office read that retired Colonel Vasile Gheorghe (former Securitate officer),
retired Lieutenant Colonel Tudor Stanica (former Securitate officer), retired
Lieutenant Colonel Mihail Creanga (former prison warden) and retired Major
Marian Parvulescu are guilty of abuse in office and abusive investigation
and mistreatment, but their crimes had been pardoned by Amnesty Decree
no. 11 of 1998. Under the circumstances, the prosecutors decided not to
pursue the case. The son of Gheorghe Ursu asked the prosecution, June 16,
to continue investigating the former Securitate and Militia officers and
prosecute them. Andrei Ursu has been on hunger strike for over a week to
protest the prosecution's decision not to pursue the murderers of his father.
Two days ago, dozens of Romanian and foreign intellectuals wrote to the
Chief Military Prosecutor asking him to resolve the case as soon as possible.
